General Science 2 is a Secondary IV course in the Science and Technology program, intended to develop ability to deal with issues and problems that involve materials, engineering and the musculoskeletal system.

This course develops the learners' ability to:

  • analyze a technological application involving electrical or mechanical engineering;
  • justify the decision to use pure substances or different types of mixtures in the composition of the materials used to make a technical object;
  • use mechanical engineering to model the functioning of the musculoskeletal system;
  • analyze characteristics of the musculoskeletal system;
  • produce a graphical representation of the simple parts of a technical object;
  • design a technical object using graphical language;
  • plan, with assistance, the steps for producing a working prototype comprising mechanical or electrical components;
  • follow, with assistance, a manufacturing process sheet for a prototype comprising mechanical or electrical components.
Duration: 50 hours (2 units)

This course will allow learners to:

  • describe the characteristics of sound and light waves, and then explain their deflection;
  • explain how the nervous system and sensory receptors work, allowing the body to relate to its environment;
  • use the particle model of matter to illustrate and explain various physical and chemical changes;
  • explore some physical properties of aqueous solutions;
  • understand how the digestive system functions and the role its organs perform in transforming food;
  • put into practice the experimental process, modelling and observation approaches during several experimental activities, then communicate the results by writing a laboratory report.

Passing mark for scored activities (3): 60%

Passing mark for certification examination: 60%
