SOFAD has been mandated by the Association Irrigation Québec (Quebec irrigation association, AIQ) and by HortiCompétences (the sectoral labour force committee on ornamental horticulture – marketing and services) to provide standardized, accessible distance education and certification services in the field of irrigation.

A certificate from the AIQ is obtained after the applicant has passed the examination prescribed by or recognized by the AIQ. Training is not mandatory but allows for the acquisition of knowledge needed to pass the certification examination.
