English and Interviews is the first of three Secondary III English Language Arts courses. To achieve the two required competencies, adult learners will be involved in learning situations that will allow them to learn about structured and semi-structured interviews and develop their ability to discuss and analyze them. By the end of the course, they will be able to conduct short surveys or polls and present results orally. They will also be able to apply their knowledge when adopting the roles of interviewer and interviewee. Accompanying video and audio resources are available online.

Content:
  • Learning situation 1: Recommending someone for a media interview, includes types of interviews, interview techniques, body language, voice tone, problems in interviews, levels of language.
  • Learning situation 2: Presenting the results of a survey, covers the use of surveys and polls, types of questions, target audience, methodology, bias, charts and graphs, structure of a presentation.
  • Learning situation 3: Being an interviewee, helps with collecting information, finding reliable sources, forecasting questions, using clear language.
  • Learning situation 4: Conducting a semi-structured interview, develops skills in gathering information, structuring a list of questions, interviewing a personality.
