Algebraic and Graphical Modelling in a General Context 1 course. The aim of this course, which is the first in the Secondary IV Cultural, Social and Technical sequence, is to develop the learners’ skill in dealing with situations that involve using an algebraic or graphical model to represent a dependency relationship between quantities.

The SOLUTIONS learning approach is based on the acquisition of all the prescribed mathematical knowledge in a problem-solving context.

Duration: 25 hours (1 units)
Content

Learners will study five new real functions:

  • piecewise functions;
  • step functions;
  • periodic functions;
  • quadratic functions;
  • exponential functions.

They will complete their learning by expanding their knowledge of:

  • the properties of straight lines in a Cartesian plane;
  • solving systems of equations.
Evaluation

Passing mark for scored activity: 60%
Passing mark for supervised ministry examination: 60%
