Algebraic Modelling is the third in a series of four Mathematics courses designed for the Common Core Basic Education (CCBE) program at the Secondary level. This course contains six learning situations in which learners solve situational problems by producing algebraic models for real-life situations. Learners also solve situational problems by using geometric formulas to calculate perimeters, areas and volumes. In addition, they are given an opportunity to interpret, produce and solve situational problems involving equations with one unknown variable.

Duration: 75 hours (3 units)
Content:
  • Equations (variable, constant, term, degree)
  • First-degree equations with one unknown
  • Order of operations in algebraic expressions
  • Exponents, square roots and cube roots
  • Perimeter, areas and volumes
  • Formulas for finding the volume, lateral area and total area
  • Law of proportions (rule of three)
  • Direct and indirect proportions
Evaluation:

Passing mark for scored activities: 60%

Passing mart for certification examination: 60%
