By the end of the course learners will be able to analyse and discuss poems and songs and make an oral presentation of a poem.

Duration: 25 hours (1 unit)

The learning guide contains three learning situations and two scored activities (formative evaluation situations).

  • Learners identify poems and songs that reach them, they learn to recognize and respond to sensory images, patterns of rhythm and rhyme, and identify elements to consider in a poetry reading.
  • Learners record a poem and an oral response to a poem.
  • Learners learn a procedure to follow in understanding a poem, write responses to poems, and reflect on how poetry and song use similar techniques to deliver a message.
